The Ugandan VHF pocket guide

During the 4 district outbreak of Ebola in Uganda in November 2013, the MOH Clinical Service asked WHO and the IMAI Alliance to produce a pocket-sized guide for the clinical management of viral haemorrhagic fever, so that the front-line health worker could have a ready reference in case an outbreak occurs. The IMAI Alliance started to produce the guide to address Ebola and Marburg; when a few cases of Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever occurred (CCHF), the pocket guide was quickly expanded to include CCHF. The pocket guide was completed in December 2013 and printed in January.

Intercountry Ebola Clinical Training of Trainers

The World Health Organization via IMAI-IMCI Alliance/Walimu, conducted a training of trainers (TOT) workshop in Kampala, Uganda Sept 15-19 on the clinical case management and infection and prevention control (IPC) for appropriate management of Ebola. This training was intended to strengthen the regional capacity for infection and prevention control. As a result of this training of trainers 30 participants from Tanzania, Kenya, Ethiopia, Gambia, Uganda, South Sudan, African Union, and the United Kingdom were trained on Ebola clinical case management and infection prevention and control. The training brought together clinicians with expertise in managing severely ill patients, who could subsequently serve as trainers in case management and IPC for Ebola.
